The Trouble with Romney

Romney is a Mormon but he is also a pragmatist. The trouble with Romney is that he would actually balance the federal budget. There are a lot of citizens that don’t want the government to cut back spending, including wealthy people.

Unions wouldn’t like a Romney presidency, Federal workers wouldn’t like a Romney presidency, anyone receiving government assistance in any form would not like a Romney presidency. Companies that contract with the federal government would certainly not like a Romney presidency.

It is not about Mormonism but that many Americans want to keep on draining the blood out of Uncle Sam until this great country has no more life. Romney would put a stop to that.

And that is the trouble with Romney.

Britain Begins Spending Cuts

With a new government the United Kingdom has moved quickly to cut their budget deficit. £6 billion in spending cuts is expected to be announced next week to cut into their £163 billion deficit, which is 12.6% of GDP. The cuts are modest, bringing the deficit down by only 0.5% of GDP. However, it is expected that more cuts will be coming in the future.

They will be needed because Britain’s debt-to-GDP ratio will hit 90% next year about the same as for the United States. So when is the U.S. going to cut its budget deficit? Not any time soon with the current congress.

What can be done? No much, except to remind Congress, via the voting booth, who is really in charge.

See you in November.

Will The Democratic Congress Ever Learn?

On Monday Evan Bayh became the fifth Democratic senator who is not going to run for re-election in November. And we all know why — except the Democrats in Congress. Senator Bayh spelled it out last month, referring to the possible loss of seats in upcoming elections:

It is amazing that some people here in Congress still don’t get it. For those people it may take a political catastrophe of biblical proportions before they get it.

So here we go again: We don’t want more government run health care, we for sure don’t need cap and trade. We want you to at the very least attempt to cut spending and balance the budget.

No? Just want to keep spending? OK you’re out come November. Along with many of your profligate friends.

At least Senator Bayh has the good sense, just like Lot, to get out before the catastrophe hits.

Politicians Pay Attention

I was happy to see Scott Brown win in Massachusetts. Not because I dislike Democrats or love Republicans but because I am tired of being ignored. The majority of Americans did not favor the bailouts, did not want any more government involvement in health care, and are wary of Cap and Trade.

So they voted accordingly. Good for them.

Politicians pay attention. No more bailouts, health care legislation, or global warming taxes. There is an effective mechanism in place to check up on you to see if you pay attention.

It’s called the 2010 elections.
